🟧 Push-Up Variations Pt.1

If you could only do three exercises for the rest of your life, push-ups would most definitely be one of them. Why? Because when done right, push-ups are a full-body powerhouse—toning, strengthening, sculpting, and even burning serious calories.

But we get it—doing the same old push-up every day can get boring. That’s exactly why we created this Push-Up Variations Series—to keep your workouts fun, challenging, and constantly evolving.

Let’s kick it off with three beginner-friendly variations. But first…

🟧 Why Push-Ups Deserve a Permanent Spot in Your Routine

1. It’s a Full-Body Compound Movement

Push-ups aren’t just about your chest. Yes, they target your pectorals, triceps, and shoulders—but when aligned properly, they also work your core, glutes, and even your quads. All that with just one simple move.

2. It’s More Cardio Than You Think

You might not think of push-ups as a cardio move, but trust us—your heart knows what’s up. The more muscles you engage, the harder your heart works to supply oxygen. This makes push-ups great for cardiovascular health. In fact, research suggests that regular push-ups can reduce your risk of heart disease by up to 96%.

3. They Fire Up Your Metabolism

Push-ups get your blood flowing and your metabolic rate climbing. That means more calories burned, more fat loss, and a better body composition—all while building lean muscle mass.

4. They’re an Instant Energy Boost ⚡

Feeling sluggish? Drop and give us ten. Push-ups heat up your body, stimulate circulation, and wake up your brain. Perfect for that 3 p.m. slump.

5. They Support Muscle Growth

Push-ups naturally stimulate the production of Human Growth Hormone (HGH)—which is essential for building and maintaining lean muscle. Since HGH decreases with age, this simple move becomes even more important as you get older.

6. They Help Balance Hormones and Strengthen Bones

Push-ups may help increase testosterone production, especially important for maintaining muscle mass as we age. They’re also a weight-bearing exercise, which makes them great for increasing bone density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis.

🟧 Form First: How to Do a Push-Up Properly

Make every rep count by following these key alignment cues:

  • Screw your hands into the floor

  • Keep your body in one straight line

  • Let your shoulders float (not pinch)

  • Squeeze your glutes

  • Lead with your chest, not your chin

  • Use a full range of motion

  • Don’t bob your head

  • Move with control (slow it down!)

  • Inhale on the way down, exhale on the way up

🎥 Follow Along with Us

Prefer to learn by doing? We’ve got you covered!
In the videos below, we walk you through each of the three push-up variations —so you can see the form in action, follow along at your own pace, and move with confidence.

🟧 Ready to Push It? Start with These 3 Push-Up Variations

Whether you’re just starting out or coming back after a break, these beginner friendly push-up variations will help you build confidence and strength.

1. Modified Push-Up

Ideal if you’re working on arm strength or core control.
✅ Knees on the floor
✅ Body in a straight line from knees to crown
✅ Core engaged, elbows bending back
This version helps you nail proper form without overloading your upper body.

2. Push-Up with Handles

Grab a pair of push-up bars or dumbbells to change your angle and grip.
✅ Hands on handles
✅ Plank position with straight body line
✅ Feet hip-width apart
The handles reduce wrist strain and allow for a deeper range of motion.

3. Supported Push-Up with Resistance Band

Wrap a band around your arms above the elbows.
✅ Plank position, hands just wider than shoulders
✅ Core tight, body straight
✅ Band gives support on the way down and helps push you up
This is a great way to learn full-range push-ups without face-planting.
