If you’re looking for a killer core move that really challenges you, the ab wheel rollout might just become your new favorite exercise. This simple movement fires up your rectus abdominis (six-pack!), transverse abdominis, and obliques—and even gives your shoulders and back a run for their money.

But let’s be honest—rolling on a little wheel isn’t as easy as it looks. That’s why we’re breaking it down for you step-by-step, so you can roll strong, smart, and injury-free.


🟧 What is the Ab Wheel Rollout?

The ab wheel rollout is a core-blasting movement where you roll a small wheel forward and back while keeping your body in a long, straight line. Think of it as a supercharged plank on the move.

This move builds stability, control, and deep core strength—the kind of strength that carries over into real life and every other workout you do.


🟧 How to Do It Right

1. Set Your Starting Position

  • Kneel on the floor with the ab wheel in front of you.
  • Grip the handles with your fingers pointing forward.
  • Keep your spine long—like you’re in a plank from your knees.
  • Engage your core from the get-go.

2. Roll It Out

  • Slowly roll the wheel forward, leading with your arms and keeping your body in a straight line.
  • Don’t let your lower back sag. Keep your abs tight and tailbone slightly tucked under.
  • Roll as far as you can while maintaining control—this might just be a few inches at first, and that’s okay.

3. Pull It Back

  • Pause at your furthest point.
  • Then, use your core (not just your arms!) to roll yourself back to the starting position.
  • Stay controlled. No jerking, no crashing down.

  Engage your core like crazy: Your abs and glutes are your best friends here. Keep them tight throughout.
