Many good things to say about this studio. First, they have something that no other yoga studio I've tried in the City has (not that I've tried them all, but quite a few):
a big, beautiful classroom with windows on three sides that's in the back of the building--so it's quiet but open to the outside world. I went to one of Joschi's sweaty advanced classes
on a hot and humid summer evening, and as we cooled down, working our way toward savasana, a summer thunderstorm broke and the rain thundering down all around us--amazing.
I've worked with several teachers at the studio, and they have been so good--deeply knowledgable and sincerely generous. And I emphasize the generosity especially--unlike some studios,
the place is not a cult. They seem to understand that yoga is not about worshipping at the feet of your teacher or swearing allegience to your studio. It's about your own individual practice,
and all you may develop and experience with the guidance of a generous teacher. I feel comfortable bringing friends new to yoga there because I have no fear they will be turned off by being made to
feel like outsiders, which is nice. And the great teachers mean even in a level one class I'm enjoying a great practice and learning something new every time. Very grateful to have found this gem of a studio. - Rebecca S.
I love Joschi's. This place, personally works for me. Joschi and Monika have created a space where Yoga and Pilates is learned and understood. Lately...
I have been a little more into Pilates though love the mix. There is such personalized attention to all practitioners, that learing is as Joschi always says...
"Meaningful." All of the instructors at Joschis', in my experience here are consistant in their teachings, even if there are a varied background.
Now, there is an underlying factor that I dig.... even though you are learning... all of the teachers make you work and work means sweat. a quality I enjoy.
As a big dude... I enjoy the results of the work as I am grateful to the encouragement of my teachers. come on in and check it out. This is a beautiful thing. - Pierre V.
Okay, I've practiced at other NYC studios and glad to have found Joschi Yoga Lounge. Ambience is very zen - calming, peaceful. Yoga practices here work
the body and quiet the soul (miraculous for a native NYer like me) b/c instructors are quirky, playful and challenging. Pilates here is new and exciting and I've
taken over a year's worth of traditional Pilates classes. The exercises target parts I forgot I had. How do I know coming here is doing it for me internally and
externally? I've repeatedly heard "Just what have you done to yourself, can it work for me?" The answer? YES! - Mildred L.
This studio is the greatest balance of of peace and relaxation and physical challege I've ever experienced. Yoga is a very important part of my
life and each teacher at this studio is SO giving with their instruction. Checking in with how the class is feeling in the beginning, consistant
adjustments to make sure your practice is safe, reminding you of the importance of breath throughout your practice and lastly a challenging
workout for mind AND body. I've just started the pilates classes offered there as well (which normally bore me) and they are so fun and creative
(and boy can you feel it!). Then there is Monika, one of the owners at the front desk, who somehow knows every student's name! The people and the practice are THE BEST! - Sarah C.
I started classes at Joschi almost a year ago and can't imagine my life without it. The environment is friendly and non-judgmental
and the students and teachers couldn't be more positive and outgoing. After a long day of work and stress, going to Joschi just melts every annoyance and worry away.
I highly recommend it!! - Diana D.
Best Studio to Open in the Asphalt Jungle in Decades.
The yoga & pilates classes I took here are on a whole new level...I have been a faithful member of either Crunch, Equinox or NY Sports
for 25 years so I know what I'm talking about....no where else do you get knowledgeable, creative instruction in a serene, Japanese-style environment...
I was envigorated & prepared for Holiday stress....I'm recommending Joschi's to everyone I know and telling them to spread the word....this is one of
those cool new "secrets" that won't stay undiscovered long!! - Melissa D.
This studio is the best kept secret in NYC! A friend told me about this place last week at a dinner party, and so I went today.
The studio's decor is five star,
on par with Exhale. No detail was left unpolished. Despite their size, they have a shower and really cool dressing rooms! Monika and Joschi (pronounced Yo-shee)
who are the owners are some of the nicest people I've met.
Joschi taught our class and gave each of us a lot of one-on-one alignment attention.
He's in amazing shape and definitely made us work. GREAT CLASS!
Another reason to love Joschi. In the middle of all the cool "yoga" chanting music, he played George Michael.
This yoga ho is hot! Who knew yoga and George Michael went so well together? Thanks Joschi! - Jefferson G.
